Gmail revolutionizes user experience and efficiency with new chat-style interface for email replies
The chat-style redesign of Gmail’s email reply user interface (UI) is still in its testing phase and has been extended for another three months. Although it is being rolled out to more users this week, it is not yet widely available. Despite concerns from power users about the extra step required to access “Reply all” and “Forward,” Google seems determined to implement this overhaul, which means it will eventually be introduced to all Gmail accounts.
User-friendly interface for e-mail configuration
Traditionally, email replies are composed after you scroll to the bottom of the message and offer options such as Reply, Reply All, and Forward, as well as new emoji reactions. Additionally, users have the option to reply from the top of the email, 9to5Google reports.
According to Android Police, Gmail is currently testing a reply field that stays fixed at the bottom of the screen as a handy time-saving feature. This text box closely resembles the Google Chat interface, featuring a pill-shaped container with buttons for pinning media and adding emojis.
Improved functionality for seamless email communication
The redesigned reply field mirrors the Google Chat interface and aims to provide users with a recognizable and user-friendly platform for writing emails. In this interface, users can select the type of reply to send and adjust recipient information on the left side, while viewing the content of the email in full screen mode on the other end.
Tap to display a keyboard and the answer field will slide up and a send button will appear on the right. This allows users to type their responses while keeping the body of the email visible to preserve context, which is a significant improvement. The placement of Quick Answers in this new interface is still uncertain.
This Gmail redesign represents a significant change, especially for an app that rarely gets updated, pending Google’s decision to move on. Currently, it is not widely adopted and was not detected on many devices during a recent check. This initiative follows the development of a voice typing interface that is expected to integrate seamlessly with Duet AI.
